Easy-maintenance house plants

Have you ever noticed how much life house plants can bring into a room? When I brought home our first house plant, I loved how it looked and it instantly brought life, energy and color into the room. Not to mention the many other benefits of bringing plants into your home. I was hooked. I just had to figure out how to keep them alive! 😉

When you put them in a pretty pot, it adds so much to a room. My favorite pots have been from Ikea, West Elm and using a small bowl that was once a candle. I also have a plant in a pot that was once my grandma’s, which I love.

Our house doesn’t have a ton of natural light and I’m notorious for either forgetting to water or over-water my plants, but I’ve found a few that I’ve managed to keep a live for months now. Here are a few of my favorites:

Snake Plant: I love the height of this one and it’s so hearty. I’ve gone weeks forgetting to water it (oops!) and it’s still growing and healthy.

Rubber Tree: These plants are so pretty with their dark green leaves. When baby leaves come in, they’re reddish and rolled up.

Split-Leaf Philodendron: This was my first houseplant and sadly it didn’t make it, but it lasted a couple years before I brought it outside and forgot about it. If I’d kept it inside, I’m sure it would still be alive and thriving today.

Succulents: These I find the hardest to maintain. I have a hard time figuring out the right balance of water and sometimes tend to overwater these. But I’ve managed to keep a few alive for almost a year.

I place all of our plants near windows, sometimes shifting their position occasionally. I have yet to perfect how often I water them, but tend to wait until the soil is dry to the touch. If they’re looking wilt-y, I’ll give it some extra TLC for a few days, making sure it gets enough water and sunshine.

What are your favorite houseplants? Any tips for keeping them alive?
